How the reaffirmation process works
Strayer University is institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). We are proud of this accomplishment and strive to continue to meet MSCHE’s standards and requirements.
Strayer University has maintained MSCHE accreditation continuously since we first earned it in 1981. Our faculty, staff and administrators make it their first priority to provide high-quality academic programs consistent with our mission to “empower our students to achieve their personal and professional aspirations.” We enact this through our commitment to ongoing self-assessment and self-improvement.
Strayer University is currently undergoing an institutional self-study and will host an external team to conduct an evaluation in preparation for reaffirmation of our accreditation in Fall 2025.
Goals of the self-study process
Through the self-study process, Strayer University demonstrates to MSCHE our investment in a sustained and ethical process of continuously improving student learning, instruction, curriculum and outcomes.
We also expect the self-study process to:
- Demonstrate that, through self-reflection, Strayer is identifying and addressing challenges and capitalizing on its strengths.
- Be an educational experience for staff, faculty and students, yielding a greater understanding of the importance of accreditation generally and the role of regular assessment in continuous improvement of institutional effectiveness and student learning.
- Be instructive to faculty and staff regarding the roles they play in meeting MSCHE’s accreditation standards and in understanding how the standards relate to the University’s mission and Strategic Plan.
Frequently asked questions
The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) is an institutional accreditor recognized by the United States Department of Education. MSCHE establishes standards for accreditation with member institutions that advance the impact of accreditation in the ever-changing landscape of higher education and promotes educational excellence through innovation across institutions. MSCHE’s eight-year cycle includes a self-study evaluation and an on-site evaluation visit.
During the self-study process, Strayer University reevaluates its educational programs and services, with particular attention to student learning and achievement, and reexamines how well these programs and services accomplish its goals and fulfill its mission. We have appointed a steering committee to prepare a comprehensive report that will demonstrate how Strayer University meets MSCHE’s 7 Standards for Accreditation.
An important function of the self-study process is to receive feedback from Strayer University's stakeholders, including students, to discover how we can better engage in a meaningful process of continuing self-improvement.
We will seek input from you, our students, about your experience with the university and encourage you to share your perspectives with us. Students can also email the self-study leadership with questions or input about this process.
