STRAYER OPENS A HYBRID CAMPUS IN MACON, GEORGIA
Dr. Robert Culver, Vice Provost, Academic Services
More than 90% of Strayer University students take at least one of their classes online. And while online learning is the future of education, it also brings its own set of challenges.
At Strayer, our students are also employees, parents, caregivers, volunteers—they have drive, grit and big goals, but they also need solid support as they rearrange their lives to earn their degrees.
Strayer University considered how we can best provide online students with the academic, personal and social support they require to be successful. We know our students do better with real-life, real-time advisors. We also know that students perform better when they live near a campus, even if they take all their classes online.
That’s important to us. So we thought about how we could expand a physical presence for an online community. What does that look like? As a first step, this year we opened a brand new Strayer University campus model in Macon, Ga., that combines the flexibility of online learning with in-person support. Very few classes will be offered at this campus. Instead, Macon-area students can go to the campus to meet with Success Coaches and educational advisors, to collaborate with peers and socialize with classmates. This hybrid model of learning will offer everything from new student orientation to course planning to networking.
And it started with a simple question—what do students need and where do they want to get it? Then, our leaders, faculty, and administrators created a solution that put students first, and together we learned that online learning might require in-person support. It’s a great example of how Strayer is constantly looking for ways to improve the student experience.
ABOUT THE HYBRID CAMPUS
