STRAYER STUDENTS, MEET IRVING, YOUR NEW VIRTUAL ASSISTANT

Time is a precious resource—especially for working students. To free up more time for students to focus on their studies, careers and families, Strayer University deployed artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies to create Irving, a virtual assistant for student service.

Irving, named for the University’s founder, Dr. S. Irving Strayer, can respond to students’ academic and administrative needs accurately and efficiently, and is available 24/7.

To date, there have been more than 371,000 interactions with Irving, serving over 59,000 unique students. Students receive immediate attention and response from Irving, and typically have an answer to their question within 1 minute, 40 seconds, which is about one third of the time needed for similar interactions with human service agents. Irving learns from you! As students continue to use this dynamic, adaptable technology, Irving will be better able to offer personal, tailored support.

 

WHERE CAN I FIND IRVING?

Irving can be found on every page of iCampus. Simply click a chat icon in the lower, right-hand corner, to access Irving, who will greet you by name. Then, start asking your questions!

 

WHAT CAN I ASK IRVING?

Ask Irving questions or pose issues related to academic and administrative services, tutoring and library services, and IT helpdesk, such as:

  • Where can I find a tutor?
  • I want to know more about honors classes and how to enroll in them.
  • How do I register for classes online for Fall Quarter?
  • What is the status of my financial aid?
  • How do I use in-text citations?
